We will leave Ottawa on Friday 18th May and return Monday 21st May.

The Adirondack Park (High Peaks region) is approximately 3 hours drive from Ottawa in upstate NY.

The park was created in 1892 by the state of New York. Containing six-million acres, it is the largest park in the contiguous United States. It covers one-fifth of New York State, is equal in size to neighboring Vermont, and is nearly three times the size of Yellowstone National Park!

The Adirondack Park is best known for its expansive pristine forests, lakes, rivers, and outdoor recreation opportunities. Unlike a national park, the Adirondack Park has no entrance and no entry fee, as it not only contains public land, but private lands as well where people live year-round.

We have reserved 15 standard rooms at the Wildwood on the Lake motel in Lake Placid. Each room has two queen sized beds and is equipped with full bath, HDTV, refrigerator, coffeemaker, microwave, iron and board, hairdryer, telephone, air conditioning and radio alarm clock. The motel has an indoor heated pool, hot tub and sauna for relaxing in after a day's hiking. More rooms may be available if there is sufficient demand.

Meals are NOT included in the cost of this trip. It is suggested that participants bring what they need for breakfasts and lunches. Alternatively there is a McDonald’s, a small bakery (the Sourdough) and a small restaurant (the Simply Gourmet) close by that provide breakfast, although the latter two do not open until 8:00am. We will break into groups and find our own restaurants for supper.

Depending on the total number of participants we will organize one or more hikes to suit the interests and abilities of the group. The more adventurous may be interested in climbing one (or more) of the 46 high (over 4000’) peaks. There are also opportunities to see waterfalls and fire observation towers. In the event of really bad weather Lake Placid has some interesting shopping, but we will try and arrange for fair skies! We will meet each evening to plan activities for the following day.

The cost is US$295.00 per standard room for the 3 nights (including all taxes). The motel also has alternative accommodations (cottages, efficiency units and specialty rooms with whirlpool tub and fireplace). If you are interested in booking one of these then please contact the motel for pricing.
