Recommended First Aid Kit

Ideally, all Ramblers should carry their own first aid materials rather than depend on the hike leader or others. The following day-hike list is recommended by Outward Bound, a wilderness organization and should be available at most pharmacies. You may already be carrying many of these items in your backpack.

  • 1 – roll of 1” tape
  • 2 – 4”x4” gauze pads
  • 1 – large dressing
  • 1 – 3” elastic bandage
  • 5 – Band-Aids
  • 1 – 3”x3” blister pad i.e. moleskin
  • 1 – pair nitrile examination gloves
  • 2 – diaper pins
  • 1 – pair splinter forceps
  • 1 – emergency flashlight
  • 1 – lighter or waterproof matches
  • 1 – knife
  • 1 – small container of liquid soap
  • 1 – small tube of antibiotic ointment
  • 1 – container of high SPF sunblock
  • 1 – 5-yard roll of duct tape
  • 4 – 200 mg ibuprofen tables (Advil, Motrin)
  • 6 – aspirin tablets (for heart attack)*
  • Benadryl for insect stings*
