Forêt la Blanche Hike

Forêt la Blanche

Distance:  ~13 kms     Hike duration:  ~4 hrs     Pace:  Relaxed     Ascent:  ~150 m

An on-trail moderate hike to Forêt la Blanche, a 20 square-km ecological preserve created in 2003 near Mayo, Québec. Its trails link seven lakes. The headquarters is open weekends, for an indoor lunch, and has bathrooms. The lakes and their elevations above sea level are: Lac la Blanche (181m), Lac en ciel (181m), Lac aux Hérons (204m), Lac Amik (206m), Lac Robert (233m), Lac Howard (236m), Lac Vert (251m). We’ll get to some of them before lunch, others after lunch. Lac Vert can’t be reached until Lac Robert freezes.

Bring lunch and water, walking poles, etc. Dress for whatever conditions might be - ice, mud, boots, spikes.

Meet at Supreme Court south west parking lot at 8:45 for 9:00 departure. Let your leader, Roger Bird, know ahead of the hike if you will be going directly to the trailhead, or if you have any other questions, you can reach Roger at .

Directions: Quebec Highway 50 east to exit 174, with its sign for la Blanche. Turn left after the exit at 174 and follow Highway 309 about ½ km to a traffic circle. At the circle, turn right to Mayo, about 12km north, following la Blanche signs. A large brown sign in Mayo points to the reserve on the right, along Saddler Road. Park at the end of this road.
