Weekly Outings
The Club organizes outings most Saturdays and Sundays year-round. During spring, summer and fall these are hikes, and in winter, snowshoe or cross-country ski outings. We typically take advantage of the vast trail system in Gatineau Park for these weekend outings and we usually meet between 8:30am and 9:30am at the parking area south-west of the Supreme Court building (consult the outings calendar to see the exact time and location for a specific outing), and carpool to our hiking destination. Passengers are requested to make a small contribution to their driver to cover gas costs (carpooling is encouraged, but participants may elect to drive alone). New members are encouraged to let the outing leader know they are attending their first outing (ideally by email ahead of time) so that they can be welcomed to the group. All participants should be sure to have suitable clothing and footwear as well as food and water!
Outing Levels
Our weekly outings are classified as Easy, Moderate, Challenging or Difficult (shown on our calendar in green, blue, red and black respectively) in order to give an indication of the level of difficulty and / or exertion participants may experience. Please be aware that these are relative terms and what one person may find easy, another may find quite difficult. We don't want anyone to have an unpleasant experience so if you are new to hiking or are unsure about your level of fitness then we recommend you start with an easy outing before trying something more difficult. Outing Registration
The group size on our outings is restricted and outing registration must be done on-line and in advance. Our upcoming outings are listed on the calendar on our website - just click on an outing in the calendar to see full details and register. Registration for most outings opens at 6:00pm on the Wednesday a week and a half before their scheduled dates. A weekly email is sent out every Wednesday which provides the information for the following two weekends. Hike outings in the fall and snowshoe outings in the winter can fill quickly so early registration is recommended. Our registration system maintains waitlists for fully subscribed outings and members are asked to cancel their registration as soon as possible if they find they are unableto attend for any reason.
Club Communications
The Club maintains a mailing list for all members. We won’t bombard you with spam but we do send a weekly reminder about upcoming outings, our bi-monthly newsletter, occasional news about special events or out-of-town trips, and the occasional note with more general news.
