Who We Are

Our Membership

The Club is a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization that welcomes members who like to experience fresh air, healthy exercise and enjoy companionship of like-minded individuals, with the added bonus of hiking to areas offering scenic vistas and varying flora and fauna. Full adult membership is open to anyone 18 years of age or older. Young people 13 - 17 years of age are welcome as youth members as long as they are accompanied by a supervising adult member.

Communications with the members are carried out mainly electronically. The Club publishes a newsletter called The Rambler.

A Brief History Of the Club

The Ottawa Rambling Club was founded in January 1978. Its roots, however, go back to the now defunct Outdoor Club which came into being in the late 1950's and was affiliated with the Civil Service Recreation Association.

To open up membership to those who were not public servants and to lower the cost of organized hiking, a few of the Outdoor Club founding members formed an independent group that came to be the Ottawa Rambling Club.
